The PROCare4Life project, which includes a team of Romanian IT experts, aims to develop a digital solution for managing multiple health conditions, tailored for elderly people and healthcare professionals.

Bucharest, June 1, 2023 – Elderly people in Romania are already making a significant contribution to digital healthcare in Europe, according to a press release from Software Imagination & Vision (SIMAVI), a participant in the PROCare4Life project.

“140 individuals from Romania participated in the pilot program testing this EU-supported initiative to develop a technological healthcare solution that significantly enhances the quality of life for the elderly,” states SIMAVI’s press release.

About PROCare4Life

PROCare4Life is a user-friendly digital application that provides users with a personalized care plan and easy access to professionals. Utilizing wearable sensors, such as smartwatches and phones, it monitors patients’ health at home passively and actively through frequent health surveys and medication tracking. With the help of Artificial Intelligence, this data is used to create a personalized care plan and assist healthcare professionals and caregivers in supporting the user.

Funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program, the application is currently being tested in six locations across Europe, including Romania. The project is set to conclude on June 30, 2023.

Insights from SIMAVI

Dana Oniga, project manager at SIMAVI, expressed gratitude to every patient and caregiver involved in the project, stating, “They have helped us create a revolutionary integrated care solution for the elderly. As we progress with the development of the PROCare4Life solution, it is clear to us and our partners across Europe that this has the potential to make a significant difference in the lives of elderly people managing multiple age-related conditions.”

The pilot phase provided valuable lessons, revealing that some patients struggled with technology, which sometimes led to errors. Additionally, the sensors occasionally collected unnecessary data from benign activities unrelated to the monitored conditions. These insights have been crucial in refining the solution. In the final phase over the coming months, the focus will be on reducing the need for direct user interaction with the application and enhancing passive monitoring to yield more actionable data.
